As an animal trainer gains a theoretical knowledge in communication, learning theory and training applications, putting it to practice is key in developing advanced skills. A Fear Free Certified Animal Trainer uses positive reinforcement, patience and observation skills to gain the trust of the cat. By keeping the potential development or exposure of Fear, Anxiety and Stress (F.A.S) at a minimum, the trainer is then able to assist in maintaining and enhancing the emotional and behaviour well-being for a higher quality of life. This allows the cat to love interacting with others like vet professionals, kids, strangers - even other pets like dogs. The petowner also has a better experience maintaining the cats health.
WHAT IS CONSENT & ACCEPTANCE TRAINING?
We obtain the animals consent "Yes - I'm ready" before we do something or have the animal agree for something to happen. As we progress through an activity or training session, it is important that we have acceptance to keep going "I will allow you to continue". This is obtained through direct observation of the cats communication while remaining within the green zone of FAS spectrum.
EACH SESSION CAN INCLUDE AND NOT LIMITED TO:
(NAILS / EARS / TEETH BRUSHING / COMBING / BATHING)
*ANY TRAINING FOR SPECIAL SKILLS CAN BE APPLIED AT OWNERS REQUEST*
*THE PET OWNER WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING:
TOOTH BRUSH SUITABLE FOR CAT TEETH CLEANING
COMB/BRUSH FOR THE CATS COAT TYPE
MAT TO CONDUCT STATIONARY WORK/HANDLING
FOOD REWARDS IF ON A SPECIAL DIET
TRAINING SESSIONS WILL NOT LAST ANY LONGER THAN 1 HOUR KEEPING WITHIN THE GREEN ZONE OF THE F.A.S SPECTRUM
Just like the canine apprenticeship program from Dogma, It takes observation, progressive interaction, and training practice. Learning normal feline behaviour and communication is essential to progressing through and advancing into complex cases.
A TRAINER CAN TAKE ALL THE ONLINE EDUCATION AND WATCH VIDEOS ON FELINE COMMUNICATION AND BEHAVIOUR, BUT LIVE AND IN PERSON OBSERVATION AND INTERACTION HAS ITS HIGHER VALUE AND REWARDS!
Tara is mandating that in order to move forward into Feline behaviour training practice, she needs to start with the smallest and most receptive to learning - Kittens. After so many of completed cases with Kittens, she can then start Juniors/ Adults that have typical behaviour before progressing into more complex cases like fear and aggression.
WHAT DOES 800 PAWS LOOK LIKE?
(20 CASE SESSIONS BEFORE STARTING JUNIOR CASES)
(15 CASE SESSIONS BEFORE STARTING ANY JUNIOR FEAR CASES)
(10 FEAR CASE SESSION BEFORE STARTING ANY AGGRESSIVE CASES)
*ANY FOSTER SESSION AND RESCUE EVENTS ARE FREE WITH LIMITED AVAILABILITY AND NOT A PART OF THE PROGRAM*
